Is
WikiPedia blocked at your school or library? Are administrators, teachers, and librarians in your school district wary to permit students to use WikiPedia for research purposes because of its dynamic nature? Check out "wikipedia' on a jumpdrive or as a DVD.
Many school districts use software that blocks certain websites. This can be really frustrating to teachers that know there are learning opportunities missed because of district policies.
There is hope!
Through this page, teachers will (hopefully) get all the (easy to use) tools to get access to useful, but currently blocked, websites in their classroom.
I want teachers to be able to find form letters that they can personalize by filling in a few blanks and send to the right people in their district to gain access to these potentially educational websites.
Hopefully, I can get up something useful soon and, with your help, one of the biggest obstacles to using web-based technology in the classroom will no longer be an issue.
Directly from the CMS intranet:
What should I do if I feel that a website that is being blocked should be available for viewing because of its educational value?
Schools: Review the site with your Principal Designated School Technology Contact. The Technology Contact will complete and send the Webpage Review Request form located under Web Applications on the CMS Intranet. If the Principal Designated School Technology Contact does not see the Webpage Review Request choice under Web Applications please have them complete and submit the
Principal Designated Paperwork. This form contains Technology Contact information as well as Webmaster information. All other locations: Submit the request to your supervisor. After their approval, they can submit the
Administrative Building Website Review Request form or email filtering@cms.k12.nc.us.
